Black August: A Legacy of Resistance and Liberation
Black August is a month dedicated to commemorating historical and contemporary struggles for Black liberation. It originated in the 1970s within California prisons to honor the life and legacy of George Jackson, a Black Panther Party member and revolutionary who was assassinated on August 21, 1971, in San Quentin Prison.
