EMPOWERMENT THROUGH DIALOGUE
As we approach Give Miami Day, a momentous occasion for our organization, I want to share with you the powerful impact we've been making through our transformative initiatives. South Florida People of Color (SFPoC) has been at the forefront of fostering unity, promoting healing, equity, and inclusive leadership in our communities. Our mission is clear: to create a more just and inclusive society by empowering individuals to unlearn deeply ingrained biases.
In today's climate, our work is more critical than ever. We face additional waves of legislative attacks that have proliferated since this summer's anti-affirmative action decision by the Supreme Court. This decision struck down race-conscious admissions policies at esteemed institutions like Harvard College and the University of North Carolina. What's more, conservative activists are using this ruling to extend its exclusionary force to every realm of American life. This includes the military, private corporate employment, philanthropy, DEI programs, ESG financial investing, and even venture capital funding.
At SFPoC, we stand firm in our commitment to creating a more equitable South Florida, and we've developed initiatives that are already making waves. These include:
The Award-winning "Awkward Dinner" series
These dinners provide a unique platform for individuals from diverse backgrounds to come together and explore uncomfortable topics, challenging social norms, and fostering personal growth.
The Unity360 Critical Film Series
Showcasing thought-provoking films addressing critical issues related to race, gender, and sexual orientation, this series creates opportunities for reflection, education, and constructive dialogue.
The Award-winning Unity360 Community Dialogues
Our dialogues serve as a safe and inclusive space for community members to engage in open conversations about identities such as race, gender, and sexual orientation, promoting understanding, empathy, and unity.
Unity360 Event Programming
We tailor our programming to suit the unique needs of every client and community we serve, emphasizing experiential activities and storytelling to encourage individuals to engage with these subjects on a profound level.
The Unity360 Institute
Offering a comprehensive curriculum designed to challenge social norms, dismantle supremacist ideologies, and empower individuals to unlearn deeply ingrained biases.
Now, I'm excited to introduce our newest initiative:
The Redline Tour
This innovative program delves into the historical impact of redlining and systemic racism in our communities. It's designed to bring awareness and create meaningful change by confronting the legacy of discriminatory housing policies.
Our transformative initiatives, including the Redline Tour, have successfully united diverse groups for candid conversations on challenging topics. We go beyond theoretical discussions by incorporating experiential activities and storytelling, allowing participants to engage with the subject matter on a personal level. We create an environment that encourages vulnerability and open dialogue, fostering a safe space for growth and learning.
With Give Miami Day approaching (November 13 - 16), we need your support more than ever. Your generous donations will enable us to continue these impactful initiatives and confront the legislative challenges that seek to undermine our progress. Together, we can ensure that South Florida remains a place where diverse voices are respected, and empowered communities flourish.
